Anzac Slice

On Tuesday the 23rd of June our trusty parent helper 'Toni' provided all of the ingredients and pans for us to make 'Anzac slice'.  This was to continue out celebrations of 100 years of Anzac for 2015.  We begun by washing our hands because we understand about bacteria!  We also integrated mathematics learning into this baking.  We divided ourselves into groups and accurately weighed our ingredients.  We shared out the responsibilities of tasks during the baking activity.  We really enjoyed ourselves and were lucky enough to enjoy Anzac slice at the end of the day!

Soccer

On Monday the 22nd of June some 'hardy' Room 8 children braved the low temperatures and attended a soccer tournament that was run by Football Southland.  There were teams from many other schools there which was great to see.  Each team played six 15 minute games against the other schools.  The Room 8 teams all achieved very well and won over 4 out of 6 games for each team.  It was good to see the soccer coaching that we have been receiving being implemented on the field.  Well done Room 8!

Swimming

From the 8th to the 19th of June we had swimming lessons down at the Gore pool.  We made so much progress over the 10 days!  The instructors were pleased with us!  After swimming each day we went into the Multi-sports complex and played a range of sports like basketball and netball.  Our ball skills are excellent in Room 8.  This is a worthwhile thing each year and we would like to thank the MLT and all the staff at the Multi-sports complex for looking after our learning needs so well!

Wacky Hair Day

On Friday the 5th of June we had a wacky hair day at Gore Main School.  This was to acknowledge the local Gore Operatic Show that is occurring soon called 'Hairspray'.  There were some amazing designs.  There were tickets up for grabs for the wackiest hair and this was won by a child that made their hair into a Christmas tree, with lights and all!

Check out our wacky hair...

WW1 Learning

Mr Sleeman (our school gardener) came into Room 8 and talked to us about the war.  He brought lots of exciting things to show us like an officers uniform, postcards, photo albums and even a real gun from the war!  We were really attentive while he talked and enjoyed hearing all the stories he told.  We decided that we wanted to replicate some wartime postcards that were beautifully embroidered, for Mother's Day.  This would make a beautiful gift for our Mums and also help us to make a connection to the wartime postcards.

Here we are busy making our own wartime postcards for our Mums...
Check out those kids sewing!

Everybody is busy concentrating!

Making wartime postcards for our Mum certainly kept everyone on task!

Soccer

Each Wednesday we have been receiving soccer coaching from 'Niko' our Spanish soccer coach.  It has been brilliant!  We have learnt very important skills like how to kick, pass and play as a team.  There may be a tournament coming up where we can test our skills against other schools!  BRING IT ON!
Here are the Room 8 soccer players!

Bridgette's birthday treat!

Recently Bridgette celebrated her 11th birthday.  Her Mum (Sue) made some delicious muffin cones and brought them into Room 8 for everybody to share.  They were absolutely delicious!  Thank you Sue!
Happy birthday Bridgette!  What a way to celebrate!
