Wacky Hair Day

On Friday the 5th of June we had a wacky hair day at Gore Main School.  This was to acknowledge the local Gore Operatic Show that is occurring soon called 'Hairspray'.  There were some amazing designs.  There were tickets up for grabs for the wackiest hair and this was won by a child that made their hair into a Christmas tree, with lights and all!

WW1 Learning

Mr Sleeman (our school gardener) came into Room 8 and talked to us about the war.  He brought lots of exciting things to show us like an officers uniform, postcards, photo albums and even a real gun from the war!  We were really attentive while he talked and enjoyed hearing all the stories he told.  We decided that we wanted to replicate some wartime postcards that were beautifully embroidered, for Mother's Day.  This would make a beautiful gift for our Mums and also help us to make a connection to the wartime postcards.

Here we are busy making our own wartime postcards for our Mums...
Check out those kids sewing!

Everybody is busy concentrating!

Making wartime postcards for our Mum certainly kept everyone on task!

Soccer

Each Wednesday we have been receiving soccer coaching from 'Niko' our Spanish soccer coach.  It has been brilliant!  We have learnt very important skills like how to kick, pass and play as a team.  There may be a tournament coming up where we can test our skills against other schools!  BRING IT ON!
Here are the Room 8 soccer players!

Bridgette's birthday treat!

Recently Bridgette celebrated her 11th birthday.  Her Mum (Sue) made some delicious muffin cones and brought them into Room 8 for everybody to share.  They were absolutely delicious!  Thank you Sue!
Happy birthday Bridgette!  What a way to celebrate!

Anzac celebrations

We visited the Gore RSA on Wednesday the 22nd of April to learn more about the world wars and to view some war memorabilia.  A big thank you  to Bruce Cavanagh who shared his knowledge of war history with us.  The Room 8 students listened intently, asked good questions and were respectful as they browsed around the clubrooms.  We learnt many things.  We had many emotions about what we heard.

The next day... the students showed their respect by completely organising their own 'Anzac Service' for Room 8.  Special guests to the service were Whaea Marie, Whaea Jean and Mrs M.

Here is a photographic memory of the Room 8 'Anzac Day' memorial service...
The students acted out a scene from the war.  Here are the nurses rushing in to help the wounded soldiers.

Happy EASTER from Room 8

We have had a wonderful term in Room 8!  The students and teacher have got to know each other and have formed the relationship needed for maximum learning to occur!  We are all looking forward to a prosperous Term 2.
Happy Easter from Room 8!!

Mrs Shaw (Bridgette's mum) made beautiful little cupcakes for Room 8!  Thanks Mrs Shaw... we enjoyed them!

Baking with clean hands in Room 8

On the last day of Term we decided to do some baking in Room 8!!  We made chocolate rice bubble cakes.  We washed and dried our hands really well to make sure that we eliminated as many bacteria as we could before we started.  We each had our own container and spoon to make the little bubble cakes.  We have learnt from our virus studies that it is important to do simple things to prevent the possible spread of bacteria or viruses.  Here we are making rice bubble cakes in our mufti for 'Mufti Day!'
Each student has their own spoon and container each.  We are serious about hygiene in Room 8!

Mixing in ingredients!

YUM...  Here is the finished product... Rice bubble cakes - Made with clean hands
